My name is Ross Tyser and I would like to take a few moments to tell you a little something about myself and RT Custom Knives.

I started making knives in 1995. I have always enjoyed working with my hands, whether with wood or my first love “Lapidary”. I started cutting stones when I was 8 years old. When the knifemaking bug bit me I was very fortunate to have made the acquaintance of ABS Master Smith Jerry Fisk. Jerry was very giving of his time and knowledge in teaching me the fine art of forging and pattern welding Damascus. However, with him being located in Arkansas and myself being in South Carolina, it was soon evident I would need someone a little closer to home to help me with the grinding and handle and guard work. So, Jerry put me in touch with Marvin Poole of Commerce, Georgia.  Marvin also gave freely of his time and knowledge in that Marvin works mainly in stock removal and thus has been able to help me with the finer points of grinding my blades.

At this time I work primarily in the “stock removal” method. Utilizing 440-C stainless barstock. Unfortunately, I am unable to do any serious forging at my present location. So, I have been very fortunate to have the co-operation and generosity of gentlemen like Mr. Fisk who allow me the use of their facilities on occasion to forge out some Damascus billets to carry back home and make a few knives out of.

I am a member of the Arkansas Knifemaker's Association as well as the American Bladesmith Society.

Take a few moments, look around. Thank you for visiting RT Custom Knives
